Desire to Inspire

I’ve been reading a few different books about exploring one’s creativity and finding and expressing one’s voice.  I highly recommend the following books to you:

Desire to Inspire. Using Creative Passion to Transform the World by Christine Mason Miller.

The Desire Map. A Guide to Creating Goals with Soul by Danielle Laporte.

The Artist’s Way. A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity by Julia Cameron.

Each of these books is exactly what the doctor ordered in my life right now.  A couple of ideas from The Desire Map have really stayed with me:

“What is pushing you? What is pulling you?

Follow the pull.”

and “Subliminal message:  Feeling good is the primary intention.”

I don’t know about you, but somewhere along the way in my early development, I got the message that life isn’t supposed to be fun; it’s supposed to be serious and hard work.  So, I’ve plodded along all these years doing work that’s not particularly fun but serious and “important”.

Where has that left me, you might ask? Not in a very happy or fulfilled place. In fact, this kind of living has taken a toll on my health and sense of well-being.

This morning while sipping my coffee and perusing Desire to Inspire, I came across this quote:

“What is it that you most desire in life? Make it your practice to give just that.”Mindy Tsonas

So, I got out my journal and wrote, What is it that I most desire in my life?

Without too much thought, I wrote: Peace, Adventure, Beauty and Companionship.

Then I asked myself, “How will peace manifest in my life? How will adventure manifest in my life? How will beauty manifest in my life? and How will companionship manifest in my life?”

I quickly wrote out the answers that came to me.  It helped to bring clarity, simplicity and insight into my ongoing quest to figure out where my passion lies and how I can be of service to others.

I encourage you to give this little exercise a try!  And I’d love to hear what you come up with!
